How Novel #8 – The Splintered Edition

Standard

How Novel is a semi-regular post that I do where I highlight some clothing and jewellery pieces that  I think fits perfectly with a particular book, or character, or faerie-tale (hence the title)… or that I just like.  Thus indulging my love of clothes AND my love of fictional characters simultaneously.

So the other day I posted my review for A.G. Howard’s Splintered, and I noted that, while I had a few problems with the story and the guys, I loved how visually rich Howard’s Wonderland was, and also Alyssa’s fashion sense.  So it was practically inevitable that I was going to try and reconstruct her outfits.

Sadly though, I was only able to manage the first one – the one she’s wearing when she tumbles into Wonderland, Jeb in tow (as described on p. 58)

Splinteredblack miniskirt from ASOS, red petticoat from American Apparel, key necklace from Forever21, green t-shirt from The Iconic, red bustier from Wet Seal, plaid tights from tightsplease, black boots from Styletread, and awesome purple fingerless gloves from American Apparel

If you didn’t want to go with her key necklace (like she’s wearing on the cover), you could go slightly more abstract with:

a butterfly wing necklace (in honour of Morpheus, and later scenes with Alyssa…)

or a very pretty, etched butterfly (same reasons)

Or, if butterflies aren’t your thing, you could always declare your undying loyalty to Mad Hatters and tea-parties with this piece instead…

So that’s my thoughts – what Wonderland-worthy outfits/pieces have you seen (or even own)?  I’d love to hear them!

  1. So many awesome pieces! I’m in love with that butterflu wing necklace and again (in the way of Kami Glass) think Alyssa is a character I will click with, if only for her clothing.

    • Her fashion sense is wonderful :-) The other major outfit she wears is so awesome, but seriously impossible to replicate. Striped tights!
And I love the butterfly wing necklace too – it’s so delicate looking.
